Have you ever used the underground mall/underpass at Tokyo Station?

Underpasses are convenient passages. It protects you from direct sunlight in the summer, protects you from the cold north wind in the winter, and allows you to move around without an umbrella even when it rains or snows. A variety of stores are lined up along the aisles, creating an underground mall where you can shop without having to go above ground. We will introduce the underground malls and underground passages that connect around Tokyo Station.

Tokyo Station

You can go back and forth between the east and west ticket gates of Tokyo Station using the underground passage outside the ticket gates.
Yaesu on the east side has an underground shopping mall lined with shops selling miscellaneous goods, restaurants, and pubs. In addition, there are famous ramen shops from all over Japan, gourmet shops, and character shops in front of the ticket gates, so you can enjoy just window shopping.
In Marunouchi on the west side, there is a ticket gate for the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line. It is connected to the KITTE shopping complex, formerly the Central Post Office. If you go straight through KITTE, you will reach the Tokyo International Forum, and the JR Yurakucho Line will be right in front of you.

Otemachi Station

If you walk north underground from inside the Marunouchi area of Tokyo Station, you will arrive at Tokyo Metro Otemachi Station. Otemachi Station has ticket gates for the Tozai Line, Hanzomon Line, Marunouchi Line, Chiyoda Line, and Toei Subway Mita Line. You can travel to various locations in Tokyo such as Ikebukuro, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Kitasenju, Tokyo Skytree, and Tokyo Tower. Tokyo Metro Otemachi Station is connected to many lines and you can transfer there, but some lines have long distances.

Nijubashi-mae (Marunouchi) Station

If you walk from Tokyo Station towards the Imperial Palace Gardens, you will find Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line Nijubashi-mae (Marunouchi) Station under the national highway next to the moat. It is connected to Hibiya along this national highway (Hibiya Street). This is an underground passage, not an underground mall.

Hibiya Station

If you walk towards Hibiya from Nijubashi-mae (Marunouchi) Station, you will connect to the underground shopping mall of Tokyo Midtown Hibiya along the way. If you continue straight ahead, you will find the ticket gate for the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line. From Tokyo Midtown Hibiya, an underground passage continues in the direction of JR Yurakucho and Ginza. Yurakucho Marion connects to JR Yurakucho Station.

Ginza Station/Higashi Ginza Station

If you go straight through the underpass, you will be connected to Ginza Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line and Ginza Line, and Higashi-Ginza Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line and Toei Asakusa Line. The underground passage connects to Kabukiza and Ginza Mitsukoshi.
It's nice to move around while looking at the buildings on the ground, but it's also fun to walk through the labyrinth-like underground passages. If you have time, why not take a tour of the underground passages and shopping malls?
